I herd back in the day that you can take out the front bumper support on those and drop mass weight, or some such shit.
Yeah kinda........ All 79-86 Foxbodies suffered from that govt safety crap. So yeah if you drop the front and rear "metal-supports" on the 83-86 TC's you shave around 200lbs, off the car w/o touching the interior, or a/c components.
But when the 87-88 TC's rolled out, they had thick fiberglass supports. Mainly because where the 83-86 was more to an interior like fox-body stangs of it's day. (Less luxury) it only weighed around 3400 w/a auto tranny, and moonroof.
Whereas the 87-88, was more of a "truer" Touring coupe than the first ones. (More luxury) And as a result it weighed in at over 3500 w/o a roof, and a 5-speed.
The secret to TC's, lay in the rubber insulation. I weighed over 2bags of it when I had my first 88, and took over 250lbs of it outta the trunk, interior, w/o me touching the heaviest of it behind the firewall. Along with A/C (Wouldn't do that again though) and bumper supports, (Which I would'nt do again neither on an 87-88) that was how I trimmed "OVER" 400lbs off my birds. (The lightest being my raggity 86" sleeper most folks remember from back in day that weighed 2850 w/o me, and and just a 1/4 tank of gas)
Remember all fox-bodies are light at heart, it's the shit ford packed on um from the factory that made some of em porky.
